On August 27 2024 we announced the formation of the Ask The People Party.
This party is to be used as a political vehicle for Direct Democracy only and not for any other political purpose whatsoever.
It has one policy only “Ask The People”. This policy means that the party will require that public decisions get voted on by the public and that their votes are binding if they reach a minimum criteria, therefore we will be requiring legal changes to allow that. Exact details of that policy will be set by members on the Party once it has legally formed.
The party itself will have no opinion on any other policy or political decision, party, person or event.
There will be a spokesperson and a secretary, but no leader. All internal decisions will be made democratically by paid members of the party.
We are required by law to collect minimum 500 eligible New Zealand voters supporting this party and and a payment from them, and send that information to the Electoral Commission for the party to be able to be voted for in the 2026 election.
We are aware that playing in “the political system” is a game fraught with challenges as minor parties have all experienced. This is why the focus is to be all about what New Zealand thinks and nothing about what the party or any leader thinks. Our job is just to present what all New Zealanders relevant to the subject think on that matter.
