Days of Democracy are over (unless we do something)

Even though we’ve never had proper democracy, the reality is that even the form of democracy we do have is under threat.

Democracy is a logical concept that puts us all on an equal footing, but what’s happening in the UK does not bode well for New Zealand.

  1. While I appreciate the articles urgency, Id argue that saying days of democracy are over is a bit alarmist. Sure, democracy faces challenges, but isnt it our collective responsibility to adapt and evolve, rather than declare its death? Lets focus more on solutions, less on doomsday scenarios. Our actions, not our fears, will shape the future.

  2. Interesting read, but Im not sure I buy into the doom and gloom. Democracy may be getting a battering, but isnt that the nature of the beast? Its a constant struggle, not a utopia. Maybe its not that democracy is dying, but that it’s constantly evolving. Thoughts?

  3. Interesting article, but Id argue that democracy isnt completely out the window yet. Sure, there are concerning trends, but the potential for course correction is always present. Its not about just doing something, its about what specifically we do. Perhaps focus on the quality, not the quantity of action. Thoughts, anyone?

  4. Interesting take on this article. However, isnt it presumptuous to say the days of democracy are over? Democracy is a dynamic entity, constantly evolving. Yes, its on shaky ground, but isnt that a call to strengthen it rather than an obituary? Every crisis also presents an opportunity, right?

  5. Im not entirely convinced that the days of democracy are over. Yes, there are challenges we face, but to write off democracy entirely seems hasty. Its like proclaiming the death of a patient whos merely running a fever. Isnt it more about diagnosing the ailment and finding a cure? Thoughts?

  6. Interesting read, but arent we overreacting a bit? Democracy has seen dark times before, it’s not a new phenomenon. Yes, we need to act, but saying its days are over is pure hyperbole. Isnt it more about adapting to changing times and redefining democratic norms to fit the contemporary world?
